U.S. Representative Marc Molinaro (NY-19) recently took to the House Floor to honor Jim Ehmke for his 25 years of service with NewsChannel 34. The congressman's remarks were prepared in advance and can be viewed and read below:
"Mr. Speaker, I rise today to honor Jim Ehmke, who is celebrating his 25th year with NewsChannel 34 in Binghamton. For a quarter-century, families in Broome County and across the Southern Tier have welcomed Jim Ehmke into their homes. With his distinct and familiar voice, Jim has shared stories of community triumph, given voice to the voiceless, and guided us through tragedies and moments of uncertainty."
Beyond his professional commitments, Ehmke has been an active participant in community activities. He volunteers on the board of the annual Spiedie Fest and Balloon Rally, supports the Greater Binghamton Chamber of Commerce’s Broome Leadership Institute, and last year was the guest narrator for the Binghamton Philharmonic Orchestra’s holiday concert.
Rep. Molinaro concluded his tribute by saying: "I ask my colleagues to join me in honoring Jim Ehmke, the dean of Binghamton broadcasting, for his remarkable career. Happy 25th Jim. I yield back."
