Corning City School District had the highest enrollment among Steuben County school districts, welcoming 4,382 students during the 2022-23 school year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.9% of them were boys, and 48.1% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were white, making up 85.4% of Corning City School District's total enrollment.

Among the 12 districts in Steuben County, Bath Central School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,483 students, while Hornell City School District welcomed 1,411 students and ranked third in the 2022-23 school year.

Corning City School District roughly covers schools within Steuben County and has a main office in Painted Post.

In the previous school year, Corning City School District also had the highest number of students among Steuben County districts.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
