Which Tioga County district had largest enrollment in 2022-23 school year?

Owego-Apalachin Central School District had the highest enrollment among Tioga County school districts, welcoming 1,928 students during the 2022-23 school year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2022-23 school year, 51.1% of them were boys, and 48.8% were girls.

Data also showed that the majority of students were white, making up 94.4% of Owego-Apalachin Central School District's total enrollment.

Among the six districts in Tioga County, Waverly Central School District ranked second in enrollment numbers with 1,533 students, while Newark Valley Central School District welcomed 1,026 students and ranked third in the 2022-23 school year.

Owego-Apalachin Central School District roughly covers schools within Tioga County and has a main office in Owego.

In the previous school year, Owego-Apalachin Central School District also had the highest number of students among Tioga County districts.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
