U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) has issued a statement criticizing Governor Kathy Hochul for her recent comments regarding the Consumer Directed Personal Assistance Program (CDPAP). Governor Hochul referred to the program as a "racket," prompting Rep. Molinaro to demand a public apology.
"Governor Hochul’s comments were as insulting as they are ignorant and she needs to apologize," said Molinaro. "This was a program that gave seniors and those with disabilities the freedom to choose their own caregiver. Because this Governor isn’t competent enough to run the program, she ripped it up and now is forcing vulnerable New Yorkers to navigate a broken & bloated state bureaucracy."
Molinaro further criticized the Governor's approach, stating, "If Governor Hochul wants to find a racket – look in the mirror. The real racket is the Governor who preaches about caring, while plugging a budget hole she created on the backs of those who can afford it least."
Rep. Molinaro has been an advocate for individuals with disabilities since 2015 when he created the 'Think DIFFERENTLY' initiative aimed at breaking down barriers for this community. He has continued his advocacy in Congress and remains a strong supporter of CDPAP. Recently, he led opposition against Governor Hochul’s budget proposal, which includes cuts to CDPAP funding and eliminates nearly all fiscal intermediary jobs.
