U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) today issued a statement criticizing former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo over his handling of nursing home policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rep. Molinaro, who opposed Governor Cuomo’s pandemic directives as a county executive, has been involved with the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic in Congress.

Recent evidence indicates that Governor Cuomo and his team played a role in issuing New York’s March 25th Directive, which has been linked to adverse outcomes in nursing homes. Testimony included in the Select Subcommittee’s memo suggests that Cuomo's office deliberately excluded significant nursing home-related COVID-19 deaths from mortality statistics and edited official New York State Department of Health documents to deflect blame.

Rep. Molinaro stated, "As County Executive, I led efforts to help save lives while Governor Cuomo wielded power that risked people’s lives. His deadly mandate sent COVID-positive patients back into nursing homes, and then his administration covered it up to save his reputation – all while writing a book for personal profit. The Select Subcommittee’s findings are damning – Cuomo and his team knowingly manipulated the data, hid the truth, and betrayed thousands of New York families who lost loved ones. It’s a disgrace.”

Molinaro added, "Now, in Congress, I’m making sure we hold those responsible accountable. No politician, no matter how powerful, should get away with endangering the lives of our seniors and lying to the public. I’ll continue working with the House Committee on the Coronavirus to ensure these families get the answers and justice they deserve. We cannot allow these bureaucratic cover-ups and criminal negligence to go unanswered. The truth will come out, and we will make sure there are consequences."
