DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. – The Foundation for the Restoration of America (FFROA) awarded a $2,000 scholarship to St. Mary’s College student Nichole Burns following her completion of the Constitutional Study Program.
Burns is from Lindley, New York and is studying at St. Mary’s College in pursuit of a Liberal Arts Degree. After taking the free courses in the Constitutional Study Program provided through Hillsdale College, she reflected on what she learned from the program.
“Americans' lack the knowledge of the Constitution is a challenge to it,” she said. “They are no longer aware of their rights and so cannot protect them. We must instruct people so that they are aware of the freedoms which our fathers meant for us to have.”
Burns also reflected on a greater need to recognize God in the culture to restore America to the principles and ideals of the founding.
“It will take much effort to bring back all of our rights, as well as the true meaning of freedom,” she said. “But if we take a greater interest in the running of our country and bring others to do the same, and also believe in the help of God, it is certainly not impossible.”
The Foundation’s Executive Director Christine Altenberger shared her excitement about Burns receiving the scholarship and completing the program.
“We’re thrilled that Nichole completed the Constitutional Study Scholarship Program and had a lot of great insights,” Altenberger said. “This program is made for students like Burns who love their country and want to learn more about the ideals that made it great in the first place.”
