Chemung County schedules public hearing on unlicensed cannabis sale regulation

A new local law aimed at regulating the unlicensed sale of cannabis in Chemung County has been presented to the Chemung County Legislature. Known as Introductory Local Law No. 3 for the Year 2024, this proposed legislation is now set for a public hearing.

The law was introduced on October 15, 2024, and a copy is available for public viewing at the office of the Clerk of the Chemung County Legislature. The office is located on the fifth floor of the Hazlett Building at 203 Lake Street in Elmira, New York.

According to an official notice, "NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN, that there has been duly presented to the Chemung County Legislature on the 15th day of October 2024, Introductory Local Law No. 3 for the Year 2024 'Local Law Regulating Unlicensed Cannabis Sale in Chemung County.'" The document further states that "Said Local Law is subject to a public hearing before the County Executive."

The public hearing will be conducted by County Executive Christopher Moss. It is scheduled for October 28, 2024, at 9:00 a.m., and will take place in the second-floor conference room of the Hazlett Building. The notice assures that "all persons and interests will be heard" during this session.

This event will adhere to General Municipal Law procedures and invites all interested parties and citizens to participate in discussions facilitated by the Chemung County Legislature.
