Senator O'Mara has shared his perspective on the upcoming 2025 legislative session in New York. The focus is on Governor Kathy Hochul as she prepares to outline her plans for the state, starting with her State of the State address on January 14th and followed by the presentation of her proposed budget for 2025-2026.

The senator expresses hope for a shift in priorities that would address unmet challenges and crises while aiming for a more sustainable government. He emphasizes several key areas where he believes commitments are necessary. These include enhancing public safety, addressing the illegal migrant crisis, reducing taxes, controlling government spending, reconsidering energy mandates, and transforming state-local partnerships.

O'Mara also highlights issues such as the Unemployment Insurance crisis, support for family farms, reassessment of COVID response strategies, combating fentanyl abuse, and restoring accountability in state governance following former Governor Andrew Cuomo's tenure.

He notes that many New Yorkers are concerned about economic challenges and feel that current policies have made life less safe and affordable. According to O'Mara, "Governor Hochul needs to be focused on turning things around," with an emphasis on rebuilding communities and ensuring a responsible future for various stakeholders across the state.

The upcoming session will reveal whether Governor Hochul will align with these priorities or continue on a different path.
