Assemblyman Phil Palmesano joined Assembly Minority Leader Will Barclay, Assemblyman Brian Maher, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh, and other colleagues to present a new report released by the Assembly Minority Task Force on Human Trafficking. The task force conducted eight regional forums and meetings as well as collected written testimonies throughout the state. Through discussions with survivors, law enforcement, and other stakeholders, the task force formulated a plan comprising 63 recommendations aimed at preventing human trafficking and enhancing support for survivors.
Assemblyman Palmesano acknowledged the efforts of his colleagues Assemblymembers Maher and Walsh, stating, "Human trafficking is a scourge on society and should never be tolerated. We, as legislators, need to use every tool at our disposal to help eradicate it from the state." He expressed hope for bipartisan support for the proposals put forward by the task force.
He also expressed gratitude to survivors and law enforcement for their contributions, saying, "I want to thank all survivors and law enforcement, including those who shared their powerful stories to help effectuate change." Palmesano emphasized the commitment of the Assembly Minority Conference to support public safety and crime victims, assuring continuous advocacy and support in Albany.
