How to avoid tick bites outside:
Avoid dense woods, bushy areas, and sitting on ground or stone walls
Wear light colored clothes
Wear pants and long sleeved shirts
Tuck pant legs into socks
Tie or braid long hair
Use EPA registered insect repellant (epa.gov/insect-repellents/find-repellent-right –you
Check clothes and
exposed skin often for ticks while outdoors
Once you get inside:
Put clothes in a hot
dryer for 10 minutes to kill any ticks. If the clothes are damp put in longer
Bathe or shower using a wash cloth as soon as
possible
Do a final, full body check for ticks
Check your pets
