Mayor Kraham Kicks Off Latest Round of Blighted Property Demolitions
City to Tear Down Six Neighborhood Eyesores
(BINGHAMTON, N.Y.)—Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Wednesday visited 214 Conklin Ave. on the South Side to kick off the latest wave of blighted property demolitions across the City.
“Residents know blighted properties drag down entire neighborhoods, lowering nearby property values, attracting crime and diminishing quality of life,” said Mayor Kraham. “The City will continue to be aggressive in acquiring and demolishing eyesores and protecting the integrity of our neighborhoods.”
The City will tear down six properties in this round of demolitions:
- 214 Conklin Avenue
- 8 Franklin Street
- 21 Pearne Street
- 18 Rutherford Street
- 537 State Street
- 63 Walnut Street
The City acquired the tax-foreclosed properties from Broome County, preventing them from going to auction.
Gorick Construction, of Binghamton, is performing the demolition work at a cost of $207,700, paid for by Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding.
