Washington, D.C. - Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) has revealed the allocation of more than $348,000 in federal funding for a new workforce training program at Corning Community College. The funding, a $348,324 grant from the U.S. National Science Foundation, will specifically go towards the establishment of an Optical Technology Program at SUNY Corning Community College.
Reflecting on the significance of this investment, Congressman Langworthy expressed his pride in the initiative, stating, "I’m proud to announce this investment in a new optical technology degree path at the Corning Community College, empowering future generations of skilled professionals in the Southern Tier."
The program aims to bridge the skills gap in the region by providing students with real-world experiences and creating pathways to careers. Congressman Langworthy emphasized the importance of partnerships with local companies in shaping the curriculum, with the goal of meeting the workforce needs of employers in the area. He added, "I look forward to seeing the positive impact this federal funding will have on our entire community — driving innovation and creating pathways to prosperity for years to come."
The grant, part of the Advanced Technological Education Program by the National Science Foundation, will facilitate the development of an Optical Technology Associates of Applied Sciences (A.A.S.) degree program at Corning Community College. Collaborations with industry partners such as Corning Inc., Micatu Inc., and other companies will play a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience for students.
This funding announcement aligns with Congressman Langworthy's broader advocacy for workforce training programs. His efforts include the recent introduction of the CAREERS Act in Congress, aimed at tackling workforce shortages by expanding training programs and fostering industry partnerships.
The investment in the new Optical Technology Program at Corning Community College signifies a significant step towards empowering future professionals and addressing the evolving needs of the job market in the region.
