The Chemung County Health Department, in partnership with the Town of Erin, is organizing a free rabies vaccination clinic for residents of New York State. The event will take place at 1138 Breesport Rd., Erin, NY 14838, on Monday, April 7, 2025, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Pre-registration is necessary for participation and can be completed through the Chemung County website at www.chemungcountyny.gov/rabies. Attendees are asked to arrive at their scheduled appointment time.

Eligible pets include cats, dogs, and ferrets aged three months or older. These animals must be leashed or in a carrier and under adult supervision. Pet owners are reminded by the Chemung County Health Department to bring proof of previous rabies vaccinations for their pets to receive a three-year certificate.

To ensure efficiency during the clinic, it is advised that each pet is accompanied by one adult. Dog owners should also prepare to clean up after their pets if needed. Cat owners without carriers should consult with clinic staff before taking their animals out of vehicles.

According to the NYS Sanitary Code and Public Health Law, all cats, dogs, and ferrets four months of age or older must be vaccinated against rabies. Non-compliance with these requirements could result in fines up to $200. The department offers free rabies clinics every four months throughout the year to help pet owners meet these legal obligations.

Residents are encouraged to utilize these free clinics as an opportunity to act as responsible pet owners and adhere to state laws. For additional information or special assistance during the clinic, individuals may contact the Chemung County Health Department at 737-2019 or EHS@chemungcountyny.gov.

"Free rabies clinics are provided at least every four months throughout the year," stated Christopher J. Moss, Chemung County Executive.
