Melinda Marquart, a veteran law enforcement officer, was officially sworn in as Seneca County Undersheriff in January 2024. This appointment marks her as the first female to hold this position in the county's history.
Marquart's career in law enforcement began in 2002 when she served as a Police Dispatcher with the Seneca Falls Police Department. The following year, she completed her training at the Finger Lakes Law Enforcement Academy and joined the Seneca County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff. During her tenure with the Road Patrol Division, Marquart undertook various roles including Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, and D.A.R.E. Officer, while also fulfilling patrol duties.
In 2016, Marquart was promoted to Investigator within the Family Services Unit of the Criminal Investigation Division. Her primary responsibilities included investigating cases of child abuse, sexual abuse, crimes against the elderly, and domestic violence.
Throughout her career as an investigator, Marquart expanded her skill set by becoming a Forensic Interviewer of Children, Crime Scene Photographer, Evidence Technician, and Advanced Youth Officer. She is also recognized as a New York State Accreditation Program Manager.
Marquart's academic credentials include a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Keuka College and she is an alumnus of Waterloo High School.
A lifelong resident of Seneca County herself, Marquart has dedicated her professional life to serving and protecting its communities, families, and residents. She currently resides in the Village of Waterloo with her sons.
