Chemung County will participate in the statewide STOP-DWI High Visibility Engagement Campaign during Memorial Day weekend, according to an announcement by Chemung County Executive Christopher Moss. The campaign is scheduled to run from Friday, May 24th, through Monday, May 27th.
"Have a great Memorial Day weekend and please celebrate safely," stated Moss.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving. It involves collaboration among New York State Police, county sheriffs, and municipal law enforcement agencies. These efforts are part of a coordinated attempt to reduce injuries and fatalities related to impaired driving during one of the busiest travel holidays of the year.
The STOP-DWI Memorial Day Weekend High Visibility Engagement Campaign is one of several statewide initiatives promoted by STOP-DWI NY and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee. Similar campaigns target other major holidays and events such as the 4th of July, Labor Day, Halloween, Thanksgiving, the holiday season, Super Bowl weekend, and St. Patrick’s Day.
Highly visible and publicized efforts like these aim to decrease instances of drunk and impaired driving. The campaign encourages individuals to "Have a Sober Plan." A mobile app called “Have a Plan” is available for download at www.stopdwi.org/mobileapp to help users find safe rides home.
Impaired driving is entirely preventable with proper planning.
