The National Weather Service has issued a statewide heat advisory, effective from today, Monday, June 17, 2024. The advisory predicts a prolonged period of high temperatures and humidity starting in the Genesee Valley and Finger Lakes regions before spreading across the entire state by Tuesday. The conditions are expected to persist through at least Friday.

The combination of temperatures in the 90s and high humidity will result in heat index values exceeding 100°F for consecutive days in some areas. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions to mitigate the effects of the extreme heat.

“These excessive temperatures are particularly dangerous to young children, the elderly, and those with preexisting health concerns,” stated Christopher J. Moss, Chemung County Executive.
