Congressman Langworthy announces over $4 million for Head Start programs in Chemung County
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced a new grant for the Economic Opportunity Program, Inc. in Elmira, NY. This grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) totals $4,065,726 and will support Head Start and Early Head Start programs in the area.
“Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide critical early education and developmental support to children from low-income families, ensuring they have the tools needed to thrive in school and beyond,” said Congressman Langworthy. “I’m thrilled to announce this significant $4 million investment in the future generations of Elmira and Chemung County. Investing in our youngest learners not only sets them up for success but also strengthens our communities and economy in the long run.”
According to HHS, Head Start programs support children's growth from birth to age 5 through services centered around early learning and development, health, and family well-being. Head Start staff actively engage parents, recognizing family participation throughout the program as key to strong child outcomes.
