Congressman Nick Langworthy announced that Corning Community College will receive a $200,000 grant as part of the Appalachian Regional Commission’s (ARC) investment in the Cyber ACCESS (Appalachian Community Colleges Eco-System Sustainability) project. This funding aims to enhance cybersecurity education and training in the Southern Tier, boosting Corning Community College’s ability to train future cybersecurity professionals.

“Cybersecurity is one of the most important fields in today’s economy, and I am proud to see Corning Community College receiving the resources needed to prepare students for these jobs,” said Congressman Langworthy. “Investments like these create opportunities for our local students and ensure our region is prepared to meet the growing demand for cybersecurity experts. This grant is a win for both the college and our broader community as we continue to build a skilled workforce in the Southern Tier.”

Corning Community College President Dr. William P. Mullaney commented, “This grant will empower Corning Community College to expand our capacity to deliver cutting-edge cybersecurity education, strengthen partnerships across the region, and ensure that our students are well-prepared to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in the field. The grant is part of a broader $10 million investment by ARC supporting the Cyber ACCESS project involving 30 community colleges across 13 states in Appalachia. The initiative will serve 1,500 participants, 250 workers/trainers, and 32 businesses by providing cybersecurity training and events. By developing pathways to credentials such as AWS, Cisco, CompTIA, and Microsoft certifications, it aims to create employment opportunities and address gaps in the cybersecurity workforce.

The project is funded through ARC’s Appalachian Regional Initiative for Stronger Economies (ARISE), which seeks large-scale regional economic transformation through multi-state collaboration efforts. This initiative aligns with ARC's mission of building community capacity and strengthening economic growth throughout Appalachia.
