Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy announced that the Village of Akron will receive over $8.4 million in federal loans to upgrade its water and wastewater systems. This funding comes from the USDA’s Rural Development Program and aims to address the aging infrastructure in Akron, ensuring a sustainable water supply for residents and businesses.
"Akron’s water and wastewater systems are in desperate need of an overhaul to meet the community’s current and future needs," stated Congressman Langworthy. "This funding will allow Akron to complete major upgrades that will not only ensure safe and reliable water services but will also help protect the health of the community and the environment."
The financial support is divided into two main projects. Approximately $2,994,000 will be allocated for replacing old water mains that have been prone to breaks and pressure problems. The new infrastructure will incorporate modern materials designed to improve water quality and reliability while reducing long-term maintenance costs. Additionally, $5,409,000 is earmarked for rehabilitating Akron's sanitary sewer system by addressing deteriorated pipes and enhancing wastewater treatment efficiency.
Congressman Langworthy expressed his pride in supporting such rural infrastructure projects, highlighting their potential to strengthen the local economy, create jobs, and improve life quality for Akron residents.
