Chemung County announces public hearing on proposed budget for fiscal year 2025

The Chemung County Legislature has announced a public hearing to discuss the 2025 Tentative Chemung County Budget. The hearing is scheduled for November 25, 2024, at 6:45 p.m. and will take place in the Legislative Chambers on the fifth floor of the Hazlett Building in Elmira, New York.

The session will cover various aspects of the budget, including the Capital Program and Budget Message submitted by the County Executive. Additionally, it will address budgets related to the Chemung County Sewer District No. 1 and Chemung County/Elmira Sewer District for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 2025.

Residents are encouraged to participate and provide feedback on proposed expenditures aimed at replacing outdated or damaged equipment within these sewer districts. The tentative budget documents can be reviewed during business hours at the office of the Clerk of the Legislature or online at www.chemungcounty.com starting November 10, 2024.

Furthermore, salary details for members of the Chemung County Legislature have been outlined pursuant to Sections 200 and 359 of County Law. Salaries range from $18,663 for members to $44,789 for the Chairman.

The public is invited to submit written or oral comments on any part of the budget and ask questions about revenue relationships within it. All interested parties are welcome to attend in person or view a live stream through a provided link.
