Guthrie Cortland Medical Center (GCMC) has been recognized as "High Performing" in U.S. News & World Report’s 2025 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care, achieving the highest possible rating. This designation reflects superior results across several quality measures, including rates of unexpected complications, C-sections, and exclusive breast milk feeding.

In addition to this accolade, GCMC was acknowledged as a Maternity Access Hospital. This recognition is given to facilities that provide essential maternity care in areas otherwise lacking such services, referred to as "maternity deserts."

"Mothers and families in rural communities need assurance they can receive the high-quality care they deserve during the most cherished moments of their lives," stated J. Manuel Arreguin, MD, MBA, FACOG, Obstetrics and Gynecology System and Department Chair at The Guthrie Clinic. "This recognition is evidence that when mothers in Cortland and the surrounding communities choose us for their care, they can take comfort in knowing their newest family member will be cared for like one of our own."

Out of 817 hospitals assessed by U.S. News, only 75 received both the Maternity Access Hospital award and a High Performing rating.
