Valerie Oswald has been named the February winner of the Sunshine Program Award at UHS, a program designed to honor non-licensed nursing support staff for their exceptional care and contributions. Valerie, a nursing assistant in North Tower 5, was recognized with the award and sunflowers as part of her celebration.

Her colleagues nominated her, highlighting her proactive approach and willingness to cover roles when needed, such as stepping in for a co-worker on FMLA leave. They noted her ability to provide personalized care, citing an instance where she offered emotional support to a mother while staff attended to her infant requiring urgent care.

"Her compassion extends beyond just her patients and co-workers. She is thorough, reliable, kind and supportive," said Valerie's colleagues. "Valerie is very special to our unit, and staff are continually telling us how much they appreciate the work she does for us and our unit. We highly recommend this Sunshine Award be given to our sunshine, Valerie."

The award aims to showcase individuals who embody UHS Values: Respect, Teamwork, Innovation, Trust, and especially Compassion. Nominations can be submitted via paper at kiosks or boxes at all UHS locations or through email at sunshine.awards@nyuhs.org.

Each month one nominee receives special recognition among those acknowledged for their contributions.
