Congressman Nick Langworthy of New York's 23rd district has been appointed to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce. This marks a significant moment as he becomes the first modern representative from the Southern Tier counties to join this influential committee.
Langworthy expressed his honor at the appointment, stating, "I'm deeply honored to be named to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce and have the opportunity to give a voice to Western New York and the Southern Tier — a region that sits atop the vast Marcellus Shale — on one of the most powerful committees in Congress." He emphasized that under President Trump and a Republican Congress, there would be a focus on American energy independence and exploration, which could highlight the Southern Tier's potential as an energy hub. Langworthy criticized Democrats in Albany for hindering access to resources in this area.
The congressman also noted the broad jurisdiction of the committee, which covers energy, healthcare, telecommunications, and more. "With the committee’s broad jurisdiction over energy, healthcare, telecommunications, and more, we have an unparalleled opportunity to influence the issues that impact families across the Southern Tier and Western New York," Langworthy stated. He looks forward to collaborating with both the committee and President Trump to achieve tangible results for American citizens.
The Committee on Energy and Commerce is recognized as the oldest standing legislative committee in the U.S. House of Representatives. It holds extensive responsibilities covering areas such as telecommunications, consumer protection, food and drug safety, public health research, environmental quality, energy policy, along with interstate and foreign commerce.
