State Senator Tom O'Mara is calling for nominations for the New York State Senate "Veterans Hall of Fame." This initiative serves as an online tribute to veterans from the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes regions, and across New York State, recognizing their military service and civilian contributions.

Nominations are being accepted for a 2025 inductee to represent the 58th Senate District. The ceremony will take place in Albany in late May. Interested parties must submit nominations by Friday, March 8, 2025. Nomination letters should include a biography detailing the nominee's military and civilian achievements and be sent via email to omara@nysenate.gov.

"So many veterans served our nation courageously and honorably and then returned home to contribute to the strength of our local communities. The Senate Veterans Hall of Fame is just one more way to give a local veteran a well-deserved and well-earned expression of our admiration, gratitude and respect," said O'Mara. He represents New York’s 58th Senate District covering Chemung, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Tioga, Yates counties, and part of Allegany County.

The Veterans Hall of Fame was established by the Senate in 2005 to honor veterans whose military service has been complemented by community service and civilian accomplishments. Induction ceremonies occur within legislative districts and at the Capitol during veterans-related observances throughout the year.

Past inductees from O'Mara's district include notable figures such as Philip C. Smith from Schuyler County; J. Arthur “Archie” Kieffer from Chemung County; former Painted Post Mayor Roswell L. “Roz” Crozier Jr.; Anthony J. “Tony” Specchio Sr.; P. Earle Gleason from Yates County; Warren A. Thompson from Steuben County; Paul C. “Digger” Vendetti from Elmira; Richard T. “Dick” Gillespie from Penn Yan; Dennis L. “Denny” Wolfe Sr.; Andrew Swarthout from Yates County; Merle John Tobias from Hornell; Frank C. "Fritz" Pesesky; William K. Kastner; and Robert Laskaris.
