State lawmakers in New York are set to continue their examination of Governor Kathy Hochul's proposed 2025-2026 state budget on Wednesday, focusing specifically on mental hygiene. This series of joint Senate-Assembly hearings began earlier this week and will extend throughout the month.

The process involves comprehensive discussions about the governor's fiscal plans, with input from members of the Legislature’s fiscal committees. These members will hear testimonies from key figures including Hochul administration officials, heads of state agencies, local leaders, and various stakeholders who are affected by the state's annual budget.

Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C--Big Flats), a key member of the Senate Finance Committee, emphasized the role of Senate Republicans during these hearings. “Senate Republicans will continue to be a voice for lower taxes, less regulation, greater accountability, affordability, economic growth, job creation, and more common sense on state fiscal practices," he stated. O'Mara represents New York's 58th Senate District which includes several counties such as Chemung and Schuyler.

These hearings provide an opportunity for legislators to engage directly with policy issues that will influence both immediate and future community and economic outcomes. The hearing schedule can be accessed online for those interested in following along with each session. Videos from past sessions are also available for review after each hearing concludes.
