UNION-ENDICOTT CENTRAL SCHOOL DISTRICT: Wednesdays bring wellness to staff

Union-Endicott Central School District issued the following announcement on Nov 4.

Across the district, not only are Wednesdays remote days for all students, they are Wednesday Wellness for staff. This is a day set aside to check-in with students and staff, provide one-on-one time between students and their teachers, and allow staff to connect with each other.

To that end, building leaders have found many ways for staff to regroup, re-energize, and just have time to talk.

In October, JFS hosted a Halloween at Home, encouraging students and staff to dress up. Staff decorated their classrooms and doors and students voted on their favorite door. As a building, Wednesdays include wellness activities to help build community and boost morale. There are already plans for themed Wednesdays in the coming months.

GFJ building leaders Mary Kay Ryan and Katie Kopansky have made Wednesdays an engaging day for staff since the start of school. During the warmer months, they hosted a BBQ on the patio, an ice cream truck a ZOOM party, and bring your dog to work Wednesday. Recently, they both went door-to-door, bringing Trick-or-Treating to staff, delivering candy, chips, and other goodies.

UEHS, CFJ, AGM, and TJW all hosted themed lunches, including Lemonade Day, Donut Day; “DONut Give Up!” Take A Break Kit Kat Day, and pizza day.

Whether it involves food, exercise, or group discussions, the hope is that Wellness Wednesdays will help our staff through the difficult days of teaching during a pandemic. Kopansky said, “We do this in hopes it brings our staff joy and helps us all stay positive during these challenging times. Now more than ever, we could all use a little wellness!”
