On March 6, families and loved ones across the United States gathered to remember lives lost to overdose on Black Balloon Day. The UHS Addiction Medicine team participated by hosting an event that included a brief ceremony and a moment of silence in honor of those who have died in the community. They also distributed black balloon flyers for participants to commemorate loved ones lost to overdose.

Black Balloon Day was initiated by Diane and Lauren Hurley in memory of Greg Tremblay, a father of four who died from an overdose at 38 years old. The day aims to raise awareness about the opioid epidemic and emphasize the importance of supporting individuals struggling with substance use disorder and their families.
