Guthrie Cortland Medical Center is set to commence Phase 3 of its Emergency Department renovation. This phase follows the completion of Phase 2, which saw upgrades including a new decontamination shower in the ambulance bay, a private isolation room, and the renovation of two existing patient rooms.
The upcoming renovations will introduce three behavioral health patient rooms and an activities room. The aim is to provide a calming environment for behavioral health patients as they await transfer to inpatient facilities. Additionally, this phase will see the addition of two bathrooms and the conversion of three curtained patient areas into private rooms.
The project is part of an 18-month effort to modernize the Emergency Department, enhancing comfort and convenience for patients. However, construction will impact foot traffic within the facility. Starting Monday, March 24, access through the hallway connecting the ED entrance to the main hospital will be restricted due to ongoing work.
Patients who previously used the ED entrance for hospital laboratory services are now required to enter through the main hospital entrance. To accommodate this change, laboratory draw stations have been temporarily relocated to what was formerly a Coffee Shop in the main lobby.
The medical center advises that patients or visitors entering at incorrect points will need to exit and re-enter through appropriate entrances due to construction barriers. "We hope this early warning will prevent any inconvenience," said a representative from Guthrie Cortland Medical Center.
The center remains committed to enhancing its facilities for better patient care: "We’re excited to keep improving our facility to ensure the highest quality care for our patients."
